Pledge Allegiance

On this Independence Day, I wanted to share one of my favorite sculptures, “Pledge Allegiance” by Glenna Goodacre. Glenna Goodacre is probably best known for the Vietnam Women’s Memorial in Washington, however she was a prolific artist and designer, having also created one side of the Sacagawea dollar (2000), the Irish Memorial in Philadelphia, and numerous other acclaimed works. There are a series of installations of “Pledge Allegiance”, including sculptures in Avon, CO; Holland, MI; Detroit, MI; Dallas, TX; Milwaukee, WI; Kirkland, WA; and Tampa, FL. The sculpture features a series of children looking reverently at the American flag as another child raises it. The original cast was designed to be a gift for First Lady Barbara Bush in 1991. #glennagoodacre #brookgreengardens #sculpture #happyupstate #independenceday #july4th#fourthofjuly#murrelsinletsc #southcarolina
